Gentlemen:
   
  Please take a look a two sample websites:
   
  https://www.paypal.com
  http://www.aarp.org
   
  You probably know of them already.  Paypal is completely encrypted.  AARP is 
only encrypted when a user wants to pay by credit card.  Therefore, by clicking 
on a join or rejoin link at aarp the user goes from a http page to a https 
page(s).
   
  Furthermore, the not for profit clubs that I belong to get hosting from a 
parent organization.  Unless we get our own hosting (permissible) there may be 
a problem getting a https page from the parent organization.  That is, we are 
affiliates or franchises of the parent organization.
   
  The information that  Scott and John gave are helpful.  But there are more 
problems to be worked out than I first told  you.

As far as I know, HTTPS merely means that the actual connection is
encrypted.

Also, it may be difficult for a phisher to get an encryption
certificate, which is needed for an HTTPS server. Stolen identities
would make this easy, though.
