Did you disconnect and reconnect them yesterday?  If you reconnected
them, I suspect that you reconnected the ext USB drive first, and that
it doesn't have an embedded serial #, and it took over the drive
letter used by the printer card reader, forcing that (whether it had
an embedded serial # or not) to take the next drive letter.

Or maybe it's the printer card reader that doesn't have a serial #.
:)  Or maybe it's something else.
