Well, you don't have the add-ons in IE anyhow, so you probably can live
without them for a while whenever Firefox is updated.
And if it's an add-on that's important to you, there's a very simple
solution: don't update immediately/ automatically. When minor bugs
(often) and especially when major bugs (rarely) are discovered in
Firefox, Mozilla produces updates much faster than Microsoft does for
Internet Explorer, so even if you wait a while before updating, you're
still much better protected even when you wait weeks, months, and
sometimes years before updating FF. And since Mozilla produces bugfixes
so quickly, crackers almost never have time to or bother to write any
malware that exploits the bug.
In FF, go to
tools < options < advanced < update
and choose either "ask me what i want to do" or if you choose
"automatically..." at least also choose "warn me if this will disable
any of my add-ons"
Very often you can get an update to the add-on before it's on the
official Mozilla site by going to
tools < add-ons
and rightclicking on the add-on and choosing "visit home page". Once
there, you might also want to give the developer a friendly reminder and
perhaps even offer to donate something. Remember that most of the
developers are non-professionals or are professionals who get no money
for writing and updating this add-on and who have other jobs whose
duties go first. If the add-on is so important to you, a small donation
or at least a friendly request/reminder will probably help to convince
the developer to update the add-on much sooner.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
