[pchelpers] digital tv cable

Is it possible to tape a program off digital cable tv while watching another?  
Is it possible to connect a VCR to digital cable and tape the channel you want? 
 I think you can but my daughter (expert vcr person) says I can not?  Who of us 
is right?
