It's possible to set so that desktop can't be modified by anyone, even
an admin. There are a number of tweak utilities which allow this.
X-Setup Pro (which is free) probably has this option. Billy, if you've
played with something like this recently, you might take another look
at it.

In XP, chkdsk will run automatically at start-up if Windows thinks
that it is needed. It's probably a good idea to run it if things are
acting funny, though.
