[pchelpers] desk top mal function

Something has happened to my desktop. when I go into properties and desk top, 
the browse button isn't available, just "greyed" and if I right click on a 
picture in my files, and then, set as desktop background, nothing happens, so 
I'm stuck with my desktop as it is, any suggestions?
