[pchelpers] Re: dangerous and safe antispyware programs

I in no way meant you shouldn't post. I just wanted to point out that it
can cause other members who are less experienced than you a lot of very
serious problems and at the least cause lots of confusion if you pick up
discussions at the wrong end and recommend dangerous or rogue programs
or ones that you are not sure are reputable.

Since you're an experienced computer user and have been a member of this
list for a long time, i'm sure you know that many antispyware and other
programs are made by crooks so that one should not install anything that
one isn't sure about.

In recommending programs to others, especially less experienced users,
each of us takes on a lot more responsibility than when we dump
something into our own computers. Most of us have security programs that
will perhaps prevent us from installing something dangerous, but
specifically people asking for help often have badly protected systems.
Recommending a program that one is not sure about, especially to an
inexperienced user, is comparable to (accidentally! or at least
unthinkingly) handing the keys of their house to someone on the street.

Seen in this context, i hope you and Re-Na agree that my exasperation at
your dangerous and confusing posts was much greater than what i vented
in my post, which i tried *very* hard to formulate in a way that was
*not* rude. If i didn't succeed, i'm very sorry and hereby offer my
apologies. I hope that you and Re-Na can however agree that my comments
were much, much more courteous and refined than what most of us would
have yelled if we'd seen keys to a house being in the process of
(accidentally! or at least unthinkingly) wandering into the hands of a
crook.

Maybe you're not confused, but the words coming out of your
mouth/fingers were very much so.

It seems you still have not understood the danger of lightly
recommending security programs and specifically antispyware programs
that you are not very sure are safe. I have no idea if Filehippo bothers
to check whether the programs they offer are safe. I would very much
doubt so unless there was proof to the contrary. Their About page
www.filehippo.com/info/about/ looks very promising, but we shouldn't
believe anything on any Internet page unless it was recommended by some
expert. Are you really sure Filehippo can be trusted? Are you really
sure they really check that "All software is 100% spyware, adware and
virus free", as they promise?

The reason i took the time to copy out all the addresses for the
recommended and reputable antispyware programs on the probably most
renowned antispyware expert's page at
www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy
was that i've seen people here at PC-Helpers being confused by that long
page listing all the rogue programs too instead of just staying at the
part that pops into view, which has the safe, reputable programs. Also,
you may prefer having links to many kinds of programs on one site, Don,
but unless Filehippo is as great as they claim, most users would prefer
to get the newest version of security programs directly from the
manufacturers, whose addresses i posted.

I'm sorry if someone felt that the time i spent copying down all those
links was wasted, but i'm sure it helped some and it shouldn't bother
others so much that they couldn't just skip the list if they don't like
lists of addresses. In any case, please note that these programs are
recommended by an expert, i'm just passing on the info.

I'm sure most of us appreciate your sense of humor in dealing with the
dry topic of computers, and at least i love you too.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
