So, what cutoff date are you saying or guessing for XP SP1? I would
guess that security patches for it will not be provided for long because
it's (unnecessary) extra work for MS and because SP1 leaves users even
more open than SP2 to the kind of problems like spyware etc. that are
causing large numbers of users to discover open source software due to
their switch to Firefox. Once customers taste freedom through Firefox,
they start discovering OpenOffice and Linux and start thinking of
dropping the small, sloppy, and expensive world of MS completely.

And since MS is a stock company, their stock value will crash if they
continue to lose market shares at the current breathtaking Firefox rate
*even if they (MS) continue to make huge profits". That's the insane
logic of an economy based on the stock market: the only thing that
counts is the trend, not the real situation and real profits.

I'm guessing that SP1 will be dropped as soon as possible and maybe even
a bit earlier (with reference to force majeure). I mean, all they have
to do is cosmetically revamp SP2 and call it SP3, and that will enable
them to drop SP2. In any case, i don't understand the legalistic
language and logic of the MS site. What does it say as a possible
earliest cutoff date for SP1, assuming that there will be no SP3?

Thanks, Ek

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
