[pchelpers] Re: critical Sun Java security update

Hi Scott and everybody else

In case you're not interested in the details, here's the good
news: no matter which of the two different versions of Java you
get by clicking on the two different sets of links i posted,
you'll be protected against the security flaw. Just click on
download in either (after choosing Windows or whatever your
operating system is (-: ) and you'll be protected.

They seem to be different development branches (sort of like
Mozilla suite and Mozilla Firefox), not desktop/programmer
versions as Cy thought, that were insanely labeled using the
consecutive numbers 1.4 and 1.5. (Both the newest 1.4 and the
newest 1.5 have the security fix.) Now they're trying to "fix"
the confusion by talking about 1.4 and 5.0 instead of using
something sensible like a new name.

The website confusion where you get different products by
clicking download in different places seems to be part of a
time-honored tradition at Sun:

Sun's webmasters are known to frequently make shockingly newbie
mistakes like this, so I wouldn't worry - it's one of those
things it'll take them a few weeks to sort out, no matter how
much we shout at them.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
