[pchelpers] computer won't start, get this message - need help asap

A friend of mine just called.
She came home tonight and tried to use her pc.  This morning it was 
working fine.  She said tonight she came in and all her icons was gone, 
her favorites were gone. Nothing looked the same.
She could not turn off the computer.  I do know that somewhere in there 
she unplugged it from the wall.

Now she says this is all she gets.  When she turns on the computer, she 
cannot get to windows at all.  She gets a message which I will type, and 
it puts her in a loop.  Nothing she clicks goes anywhere, just back to 
this same message.  Here is the message:

We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully

A recent software or hardware change might have caused this

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectantly, or was 
automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose last 
known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or 
because the power or reset buton was pressed or if you aren't sure what 
the caused the problem, choose start windows normally



Safe mode

Safe mode with networking

Safe mode with command prompt

Last known good configuration <most recent that worked>

Start windows normally

 

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the arrow keys to your choice.

(None of those do anything if she highlights them and clicks enter)

Can you help me help her tonight if possible please.
