[pchelpers] can't open drives via short cuts

I have formatted and clean installed xp pro and now when I goto my computer, 
Ican open c: drive by clicking on the shrot cut icon but not the other two I 
have, d: and e: although the dvd drive will open if there is adisc in.
what comes up when trying to open the d and e drives is this........a grey box 
with a red x in it and this message   " resycled\boot.com is not a valid win32 
application" ????

any ideas
