IF YOUR OS IS WINDOWS --- Before you take the 45 to 60 min to re-install the
whole windows, maybe you just need to copy your system files.
When you originally installed your windows hopefully you made a "startup
disk". (actually any start up disk with the same version of windows will
work for this. Even the "start and c.d. search" floppy that comes with
windows. (just choose "command prompt only" ))
With the computer off insert the floppy. Start up the computer using the
floppy. When you get the A: \ [A: Prompt] type in "sys c: " (without the
quote marks, just sys c: ) and hit enter. wait a couple of seconds for
it to wiz and whir.
remove the floppy and re-boot. You have a 50% chance of this fixing it.
EITHER IT WILL OR IT WILL NOT. ha ha ha.
I will also bet 50 cents that next you will get a "missing himem.sys" error
message. himem.sys should be on the boot floppy too, but i can't remember
where to copy it to. either the c:\ (root directory) or c:\windows\ (the
windows directory) I think.... Maybe it will be happy with the system files
and the himem.sys didn't get corrupted in the process.
