[pchelpers] Re: better understanding of Hard Drives

At the Seagate site you can download a tool that will check it and try to fix
bad sectors. I have not tried it yet, but, they talked about it in a class.

I wanted to get a better understanding of hard drives.

Spinrite is reporting a drive with over 2 million seek errors and over
106 million ecc errors.

I am correct in my understanding that this means the drive is bad?

This is a Seagate 500g.

It is only a week old and it is a replacement for a drive that I sent back.
In fact this is the 5th replacement this year.

Are Seagate 500 gigs drive that bad?

(I'm still waiting on my replacement for my Maxtor 200 gig drive for the
2nd time this year)

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
