[pchelpers] avg shut down

every time I run this scan the computer shuts its self down. When I unplug and 
put the plug back in to power up it reboots I won't use avg7.5 until you tell 
me. Could this programme cause the shut down or be part of the bigger picture?
This message came from a friend, does anyone know why this should happen?  The 
PC has been loosing power off and on for a week or so, and needs the plug 
taking out and putting in before it will boot again?
