[pchelpers] another question: wireless systems

A friend of mine lives in the country and they have had the worst time
getting good internet service.
They have dsl now. And it's been hit and miss. They have had a
repairman come out several times and he would get it running for a
little bit, and leave.
Well, finally they got a different repairman and he replaced the wires
going in to the house. Now it seems to be working better they say.

In one bedroom they have a computer that has been hooking up to the
internet wirelessly. (in another room they have a wired pc hooked up to
the dsl)
All the time they were having horrible service, the computer that was
hooked up wirelessly could log on wirelessly when the internet was
working.

Now that the wires have been changed, that computer no longer can log on
to the internet. When they do a check for available connections,
nothing comes up.

<mind you, I've not been there, but this is what they told me about it>

They are asking for advice so that the computer that is wireless will be
able to go online again.
I'll pass on the suggestions.

(No, I do not know what version of windows they have, but I would just
'assume' it is not Vista. But I don't actually know.)

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
