This suggests the original fault could have been static or dust 
affecting the IDE interface and/or the BIOS on the old system. In that 
case, the replacement motherboard/PC got around both possibilities. It 
is hard to bite the bullet on that sometimes, but you have proven the 
need for it in this case.
