Hi George,

It's a Journal Viewer problem; I've seen it enough times. It usually
appears when trying to run Adobe Reader, but it can happen with some
other apps as well. As far as I'm concerned, the fix is to rip out
Journal Viewer and stomp it into a bloody smear on the ground, as MS
shoud have done in the first place instead of making it available via
WindowsUpdate.
It appears that for some reason, Journal Viewer does not get fully
installed when it is installed via WindowsUpdate. That would not be a
problem, except that the install files are in the temp folder instead
of in the MSI cache folder where they should be. Thus, if the temp
folder has been cleaned out (as it should be, eventually), then
Journal Viewer, when it tries to install the part that it wants (don't
ask me why it hooks into Adobe Reader), the install files are not
there.
PC, the install WILL quit, but you have to click cancel a dozen or so
times.
It seems that Journal Viewer is either part of XP SP2 or else they've
bought a clue and pulled it from WindowsUpdate, since I don't think
I've noticed it on SP2 systems.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
