What you need:
1) A clean working machine with good antivirus.
2) Cables (power and IDE/SATA) to hook up with.

How to do it:
With both machines switched off:
Open the machine and locate the hard drive.
Identify the kind of cables attached to it.
Disconnect the cables and connect the equivalent ones from the 'good' 
machine.
Start the good one and allow it to find the hard drive of the other one 
(it should show up in the 'My Computer area).
At this point you are ready to scan. Just set the antivirus to scan that 
drive and leave it to work. Afterwards, you can scan again to confirm 
the drive is clean.

When all is well, shut down and return the cables to where they were 
(carefully). Power up the 'clean' machine and test it.
