Hi Billy,

I don't see any negative comments about MagicDisc.
System restore can be run from Safe Mode or from the Recovery Console
prompt. To run it from the Recovery Console prompt, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449.
Something to try first is to create (if possible) and log onto another
account to see if that new account works ok. If so, then the first
account is corrupted.
if neither of those work, it may be necessary to try an upgrade
install; if successful, all files and settings will be preserved.
If that doesn't work, try reinstalling to a new folder (such as
Windows2); be sure to NOT let it format the drive. If it doesn't give
a choice of not formatting, then try again with a different option. I
don't do it often enough to recall which option should be used when.
This will set up Windows fresh, and all programs will need to be
reinstalled, but most of the data will be preserved. The Program Files
folder may (or may not)) get deleted; if it needs to be saved for some
reason, either hook up the drive to another computer and rename the
Windows and Program Files folders, or get a shop to do the work.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
