That combination of problems suggests there were (may still be)
maintainance issues. When programs won't install, it suggests either the
media contains errors or the operating system/registry does. Did you
re-install on top of XP or format the disk (or delete the files) first?
Have you run disk maintainance checks (scandisk) to make sure the media
is ok?
I used a recovery CD ROM to do a "factory restore" which Compaq claims to
restore the PC to when it left the factory. The system is working smoothly
now. Scandisk is a good idea. Paperport 9 was giving me a lot of problems and
it may be best to install the Visioneer latest driver from the Web and purchase
the full edition of Naunce paperport as opposed to upgrade. Naunce lets the
user make his/her own CD backup and save $10 from the factory. Question: If I
have a restore CD do I need extended download
