Hi Scott:
I have windows 2000 sp3 I know with Norton System Works pro 2002-- I can
only use the antivirus-- I had it installed-- had mega problems with it.
After installing sp3 I can use it but not continuously-- and windows 2000
with sp3 likes its own system's of scandisk and defragmentation . I use a
firewall called The Tiny Firewall it behaves itself for awhile when there is
a glitch somewhere it will literally shut down my ICQ, email then my isp I
am on cable-- I have to reboot shutting off the firewall , I have discussed
this with a cable supervisor -- he suggested that the firewall is not
necessary just makes sure you have your antivirus updated, I have talked to
other supervisors working at the cable company many disagree, that you should
have that protection-- on a basis of theory--and experience it does make a
person leery of having no protection I do feel they could do a better job
making better software for security purposes, I do find firewalls quite
buggy.
I leave the computer on all the time except for rebooting or if its
storming I will then shut it down-- I do think that firewalls need to be
reconfigured more often and sometimes they will wreak the performance with
the ability of windows to do it's job. Or if there is a problem with cable
being offline it will wreak havoc with the window's configuration-- I did
have McAfee both the firewall and Antivirus-- big trouble so I uninstall
both and went back to the latest Norton antivirus Pro---- I had least
problems after that. Some firewalls will work well with some other versions
of windows and some not.
With Susan she will need the sp3 for windows to run smoother also
reconfigure the firewall if she has one. She could use a recovery-- in
Windows she may have some files that are missing. Or just use her cd -- it
will fix the problem . It is worth a shot anyhow As far as Windows 2000
pro-- with its patches runs a lot smoother --especially addressing the
security issues.Has she ran her antivirus to see if her system is virus
free?
<G>. Well that my 2 cents-- Have a great day--Jackie

Do you just have Norton Antivirus, or do you actually have Norton
Internet Security? NIS comes with a firewall.
You might try unloading NAV from memory when trying to get to the
bank, in case script blocking is getting in the way.

Check that you're set as an Administrator, not a Power User or
Restricted User. If this is your home system, it's probably
Administrator already. This is probably not the problem, but can't
hurt to try.
You say that your 98 machine works just fine? Same ISP, correct? No
proxy settings or any other non-default settings for the dial-up?
