Thanks for the info about cable select
All the computers that I have built in the last year I have installed the
new 80-pin
cables and all the drives are jumped as single or master or master with
slave.
I have never jumped one as cable-select, in fact I have never found anyone
who could tell me what cable-select was for. I could never get a drive
working with
that setting. But I have never tried setting both drives to cable-select in
a name brand
before.
Now the older HPs ( Don't know about the newer ones)I have seen are
different.
If you look closely at the end connection for the HDD you will see a hole in
the cable.
If you replace the HDD without replacing the cable it will not be detected.
Only a HP
HDD will work on that cable. In a pinch you can move the HDD to the 2nd
connection
on the cable and it will work.
