Based on what I've seen, I think controllers that use 80-pin cables
are cable-select. So, you need to either have both drives set for
cable select, or else you need to have one set as master (not single)
and one as slave.

If you have a 40-pin cable and the computer is not a name-brand, then
it's not cable-select.  If you have a 40-pin cable and it's a
name-brand computer, it MIGHT be a cable-select cable.

My understanding is that if you have a 40-pin cable-select cable, the
drives must be cable select.  Apparently there's no "must" with 80-pin
cables.
