John,
I already have a cable running from the PC to the router. It is not
reliable.
I noticed that the leases on the IP addresses are only for a short few
hours.
I think I need to switch from DHCP to a static IP address but I don't
know how
to accomplish this.

Thanks for the link. Some of what was said there goes along with what I
suspect the problem to be:
the need for static IP addresses, not DHCP.
