When I set up a computer for one of my business computers, I take
EVERYTHING out of MSCONFIG except the virus scanner and the one or two
items that I add that they need.

Use Start->Run, type MSCONFIG. When you restart, it'll pop up a
reminder; just put a checkmark in the box and close the window, and it
won't come back until the next time you make changes.
