There are a few things unique to users.
Where web sites are concerned, obviously IP is the most applicable, 
since a web site is not required to process email or support other means 
of identification.
Useful sites often add these things as a service, but they remain 
optional for the web master.

This service is free and can give some IP information on visitors.
I'm sure there are many other such services around to choose from.
