Nevertheless, I would still disable AV only if the install failed with
it enabled. A number of reliable and trusted names have unknowingly
sent out discs and equipment with malware on them. John's news post on
the 26th is a good example. And even then, it would be prudent to scan
the entire disc first.

It's not THEM that you're especially concerned about, it's malware.
And malware can slip in almost anywhere.
