[pchelpers] Re: Using Office 2007 files in Office 2000, XP, and 2003

Scott,

At the office (which is not my private office) we use Windows XP Professional
Edition. No installation of any kind can be made and any installation has to
be by a system administrator. Office 2003 is installed there.

I only have Office 97 Professional and Office 2007 Home and Student edition
at home. So anything exotic has to be installed on those application programs.

To have anything installed at the office is like going through an IRS audit,
for example, typical questions are "Why do you need it?" "What are you using
it for?" "Is it work related?" They are letting me use the existing programs
for personal use and it is sheer insanity to ask for more.

This may interest you:

"By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft
Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open,
edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in
conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel
Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in
these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility
Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074."

If you have Office 2003 SP3, you may have noticed that some file
formats are now blocked. This article has instructions on un-blocking
the formats, including providing REG files that can be downloaded and
double-clicked to re-enable the formats:
