Yes I bought one about a month ago-- I am using windows 2000 pro-- I am
using winfax so I can exit the controller icon-- but like you I can't shut
the modem down or I will have to restart windows. Jackie

I've got an external modem on win xp and, if the modem is turned off when xp
starts, then its no modem mateys! The modem must be turned on, and
connected correctly to the configured port, or xp says no modem. This
means you will need to restart windows between every attempt.
