There are 2 things to consider with this approach:
1) Removing the battery removes a possible heat source and creates an
air gap that may cool via air convection. The benefit may not be too
large since the space is confined and air is not a very good conductor
of heat. It is the recirculation of it that provides cooling.
2) Having the battery installed can help to stabilize the power supply,
compensating for power fluctuations by absorbing small spikes and
smoothing out dips. Removing it may make the system more vulnerable to
power problems and prevent retention of data when it goes into sleep mode.
It appears to be a personal decision in this case.
