Hi Gerald,
Sounds like the CMOS battery went out. It should not do so if your
computer is new enough to be under warranty. The CMOS battery should
keep the time reasonably correct even if you put the laptop on the
shelf for a year or so. Perhaps Toshiba laptops don't have CMOS
batteries, and simply depend on the main battery.
I've been using Avira antivirus. It is free, and top-rated, and only
nags once a day while updating. The subscription is currently good for
7 months, after which you can get another free subscription. None of
that TrialPay stuff (which I don't like either). You can get it from
www.freeav.com.
