No I have not but I can try that. The failure occurs whether on Dialup 
or Cable Modem.  The modem did access email an downloaded 103 messages 
this evening.  But you are right TCP/IP is not working since I am unable 
to ping and get a response. Installing Netscape did not seem to rebuild 
anything, same error, timed out.

Yes I actually had a spare identical modem from the same cable company 
that I used for several years before I changed over to DSL. I installed 
that with no change in response.
