Hi everybody using Thunderbird.
I just realised why some people have been having problems with their
answers running into the original they're quoting and/or not seeing the
quoted parts of messages they're replying to. I also figured out
why some people have been having trouble making text larger.
Thunderbird uses a fancy new technique called format=flowed that helps
keep quotes in one piece and enables fancy multicolor identification of
many levels of quotes. (This enables having a complicated discussion
with many requotes of requotes and still identifying which parts are
responses to which.) I don't understand it well, but i've noticed that
sometimes the quotes consist of one long line that runs off the edge of
the screen. To make the endless lines wrap into the window, just click
Edit, Rewrap.
To be able to send email with parts of the email message in larger type
(or to do other layout changes), you cannot send the message in plain
text. You have to send it in HTML. These kinds of messages are however
converted back to plain text by many mailing lists and also by some
private recipients' email programs. So, you cannot determine the size of
the whole text or that of individual words in messages you send to
PChelpers, but you can do this in emails sent privately. But your
recipient's email program should have the setting "View -> message body
as -> original HTML" in Thunderbird or "tools -> options -> read -> read
all messages in plain text (unchecked)" in Outlook Express or "view
email as sent" in other email programs.
The size of highlighted parts of the message is easily increased by
clicking on the icon with the larger letter A in the toolbar in the
middle at the end of which is the smiley icon (underneath the Subject).
If the toolbar is not there, hold down the Shift key while clicking the
Write icon (or switch the basic setting to HTML: tools, account
settings, composition and addressing, compose messages in HTML format).
The size of text in all messages is determined this way:
tools options, fonts
