Re-Na: I am on my computer quite a bit most days. It just seems that
when I get back to the computer and want to check mail, it decides to
compact.
So I am not sure if it is just an 'imagined' thing where it seems like
it is compacting every time I want to use Thunderbird. Seems like it
takes maybe 30 minutes sometimes. I've not really timed it.
I just changed it to 1000KB and so far it has not done it now.

E: Do you have the feeling TB starts compacting after the total amount
ofemail that you manually delete or mark as junk plus the total that
TBautomatically marks as junk adds up to less than 500 kB? That would

Re-Na: I can't really say. Sometimes I just open Thunderbird and click
send/ receive and then it starts compacting.
And maybe the very last time <earlier the same day, not that long ago> I
checked for new mail, it did the same thing.
As far as me getting a lot of spam. I don't.
When I check for mail, I may not have deleted anything, just checked for
mail.
I did delete my trash msf folder yesterday. Don't know if that will
help or not.

Ok. I could do that. I have a huge inbox too. Never said I didn't
have that.
But I also sort to a lot of folders.

And I do delete some emails in some folders that are large. So, sure, I
could try this suggestion.

Got it, thanks. :)

Ok, I'll play that by ear and see if I need to do that after I make
these changes.
Thanks very much for your help.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
