Yes, that's the default setting for today's mail. I.e. mail that only 
has a time today will have today's date added tomorrow.

That is the venerable but stupid standard from the old days of grandpa 
Eudora, but there is an extension called ConfigDate that lets you change 
that.

To get extensions, click tools, extensions, get more extensions.
