Hi Ellen,

The tuner would let you use your TV as a DVR (recorder), as you
mention. Note that your laptop display (and plug-in monitor, if you
have one) would be taking the place of the TV.

Note that the USB connection uses more computer resources than a PCI
or PCI Express connection, which may be a consideration if the
computer has a slower bus speed. That is kinda irrelevant for most
laptops, though. :)
