My experience is that if you had a problem with a patch or service
pack, it's probably because you already had something wrong... which
you say that you did.  Because of this, there will ALWAYS be people
who have trouble with some patch or service pack or whatever.

I installed SP1 the other day, and it made a very noticeable
improvement in the speed of my system.

You SHOULD be able to reinstall without losing any data, although
still have to reinstall applications.
