If you buy the pro version their tech support will help you with this
problem. The sheer number of intrusion attempts you see when it works right
should be enough to convince you that going without a firewall completely is
not a good idea. There are also other firewalls out there.

Turning off the firewall should allow traffic, if the connection is
working. Perhaps this system is really suffering from an intermittently
bad connection.
