[pchelpers] Re: Sygate Firewall Blocks Everything

I see your concern. The sorts of hangups that can occur are lockups in
the cable modem, if it gets spiked, or has a loose connection. Usually
turning it off and after 30 seconds letting it power up again will deal
with that. I would prefer a router with built in NAT firewall to provide
this service. It is the only firewall on my system at present, and it is
really reliable. In your case though, it is possible you have other
problems complicating the firewall issue. The operating system itself
may have some buggy files along with spyware or even a virus. Have you
run scans for these? In addition, the firewall program may not be well
suited to your operating system, so you get various forms of trouble
with it. Did you check that? Finally, the firewall itself may be an
earlier or faulty issue. Problems similar to these are familiar to many
Zonealarm users. Your description suggests the firewall is not shutting
down completely when you turn it off.
