[pchelpers] Re: Sygate Firewall Blocks Everything

    Sorry,
I did not mean to be rude, I know you are trying to help and I
appreciate it. The original Sygate Firewall is set to "NORMAL" and as each
of my programs accesses the Internet it asks whether I want to permit it or
not. It allows me to check "yes" and I also check "don't ask again". That
begins to set up the control table of access permissions.
Don't believe Microsoft or anyone else is changing the settings. However
when it happens again I will look at the permission table and see if
anything is amiss.
I have 512 Megs of RAM on a 730 mhz system with plenty of free disk
space.
Have reinstalled the program today and it is working just fine
although it does seem to be a CPU cycle burner and sometimes causes a little
hesitation when I have a lot of windows open. So far so good. Cy

My original message contained this:

Have installed and uninstalled Sygate for the third time.
System Windows ME, IE Ver 6 using OE Mailer, Adelphia Cable access

For some reason Sygate works for a couple days and then apparently
blocks everything including IE and OE. Access to the Internet was working
when before I shut down my system last night. This morning, the system came
up clean, but there was no access to the internet. Symptoms are not always
exactly the same. But turning off the Firewall completely does not change
anything. Shutting down and rebooting does not help. I am forced to
uninstall the firewall before I am able to access the Internet at all with
any program. There are no error messages except the normal IE Page Not
Found and the OE message that it does not get a response form the POP3
Server.

Forgive me if this seems redundant but in order to help I always ask
questions first. Sort of like the doc does, you know, cough, then, when did
this coughing problem begin?...

So, have you thoroughly checked the configuration settings of the firewall?
You have ME as an operating system, correct?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
