Ok, Morris,
I wanted to know how to start in safe mode too. I went to http://www.ask.com
& put "start windows in safe mode". So follow this URL to start Windows in Safe
Mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
click on the blue triangle by your operating system for specific steps
Here's an alternative solution if XP is your only OS
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer,
booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you
begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error"
message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and
restart the computer as you normally would.
Cheers!

Hi Ekhart:
You said..."Then you should delete the temporary Internet files as explained.
You
didn't say whether you did that."
Yes I did delete temporary internet files. I do that almost every time I come
on line.
As Scott explained, you may be using more and more RAM each year due to
new necessary and legitimate programs like antivirus, antispyware, and
others running in the background that you didn't have before. In
addition, i found sites complaining about excessive RAM usage by newer
versions of Yahoo Messenger.
From all this discussion I have come to agree that I probably need more memory.
I didn't understand all this about memory usage before.
In addition, you may have illegitimate programs running. You didn't say
if you scanned with antispyware and antitrojan programs.
Yes I did scan for these programs.
No need to use a DOS command! All you have to do is press the Delete
button after letting the Search function look for shelliconcache. Also,
as explained in the first link i sent, it's much easier to just restart
in Windows's safe mode.
I am thankful that you are so patient with me, but I am afraid that I don't
know how to restart in safe mode. Could you explain that to me please.
I want to thank all of you for your kind help
Morris

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
