This seems like an unreliable connection to the drive. Either that or a
faulty drive. One way or another, the truth needs to be uncovered.
Testing the drive in another system, or connecting another drive to that
cable for a while would reveal that.

If there is an error to report, shouldn't the drive test have reported
it? If there are drive detection problems, it suggests bad contacts on
the SATA interface, static damage or a BIOS problem. It must be process
of elimination time for this.
