Interesting. I use a similar method between my main machine and the 
Iwill box. The secret to it is the NETBEUI protocol, which is much 
better suited to local file sharing than TCP/IP

If you have that, use it on both machines. Note: Few people use it these 
days due to their need for internet connectivity, but it does provide 
stable LAN file sharing that is private. Here are some links to pages
