Ah, so you proved there really always is another way. Good detective 
work, Scott. This apparently demonstrates a difference between versions 
1.0.1 and 1.0.2 (the way it handles javascript).

If you look here, there is an explanation of how it works:

They point out that the system uses lists of key words for an 
advertiser. It targets those words on the website and makes them into 
links to the advertiser's site. So from this point of view, it really is 
like automatically installing links on a page that were not written by 
the webmaster, but instead created automatically by targeting words on 
it. They call it 'Vibrant media'.
