Hello,
All you need to do that is a hosts file in the proper place. The
Microsoft MVPs have one they have filled with entries to block all kinds
of porn, malware, and ad servers. It is available here -
<http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm>
Keep in mind that this is a very comprehensive hosts file, and it may
block some things you don't want blocked. For instance, if you use MSN
compatible IM clients, this file will block their connection as it
blocks the Microsoft ad servers that these clients attempt to connect to.
However this is just a text fie which you can edit with any text editor
which can handle large files. To unblock MSN IM clients remove the
section in the file with the label "[Microsoft via MSN Ad Servers]". I
also had to search through it and remove the entries which blocked
Google's ad servers, as I use Google Ads on my web sites to monetize them.
Be sure to read their instructions carefully, as there is another step
that needs to be done on Windows Vista, and also you need to disable or
set to manual your DNS Client to prevent slow surfing while using the
file in XP and 2000.
I've been using this hosts file with my modifications for a while now,
and it works great!
You can also create your own hosts file that blocks only what you want
blocked.
