Hi folks,
There was something that I'd seen today, and wanted to mention, but
which I couldn't remember until now.
It was a wireless optical mouse. It had been given to one of my
co-workers, and he had me push a button on the top of it. I finally
got the idea that pushing the button allows a compartment to open. I
pulled out what was in the compartment, and was confused again (must
have been a bad day), for it was a USB connector. On it was
instructions to orient the antenna. I could see no way to orient the
antenna when the connector was plugged in, since the mouse body held
it in fixed position.
I finally got a clue: the USB connector was in fact the entire
receiver, which needs to be plugged into the back of the computer in
order for the mouse to work, yet small enough to be stored inside the
mouse itself, and thus very well suited for techs or travellers.
Storing it inside the mouse causes a switch to be activated which
disconnects the batteries (2 AAA).
The only drawback is that it needs to be within 3 feet, which is
excellent for a laptop, but generally inadequate for a standard
desktop.

There's a non-wireless model also, which has a retractable cord

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
