Did it always do this or has it recently started?
If it is a new "feature", had you recently changed anything, installed
anything, uninstalled anything???

You have to think carefully when uninstalling stuff, if shared files are
being removed.  Maybe you do not have all the files necessary for the cd
writer anymore.
