I had Roxio too on another computer I networked I had to uninstall Roxio 
also I had an HP scanner I had for a long time with a scsi card  it was 
causing glitches in windows xp pro sp2 so I uninstalled my scanner software 
and unseated the card and rebooted and windows booted up just fine. I am 
testing Windows Vista-- I am having the same problem with HP Photosmart 
driver although I have an old Laser printer  driver and that went in just 
fine. Go figure that one. You can try that and see if you can solve the 
problem.   If you want to use your hardware make a partition and install 
another version of window that will work with your hardware that's what I 
did- and in sp2 you can disable your scanner so you won't have that problem 
or go to HP's site see if they have an updated driver for yoour scanner
