Well the website said:

"On February 17 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_17>, 2009
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009>, the US will terminate all full
power station (some smaller local stations have later deadlines)
terrestrial analog broadcasting in favor of digital broadcasting, which
can be standard-definition (SDTV <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SDTV>) or
HDTV.^[8]" <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television#_note-6>

It looks like a SDTV digital tuner will pick-up a digital signal after 2009.
So that should mean I should be able to buy a SDTV digital tuner DVD
recorder
and it should be able to tune to my digital cable system after 2009 with
out hooking up a converter box.
Wal-mart has really discounted these systems since they claim they will
not work after 2009.

I'm really trying to buy is a DVD recorder with an internal hard-drive.
But all the ones I can find has
SDTV Digital Tuners which the salespeople keep telling me won't be any
good after 2009.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
