Not sure what you mean. This is a per-account setting, not something one
can set to apply only to a mailing list. Or are you saying this?: "Don't
use this if/since you are on any mailing lists".
Many mailing lists automatically assign a separate reply-to address, and
those that don't, produce either the mailing list's address or that of
the sender when clicking Reply. Even if some mailing lists transmit the
sender's reply-to address and not the address s/he used to send it, this
does not cause more confusion than is normal with mailing lists. In
other words, neither the embarrassing case of a private reply
accidentally becoming public nor the annoying case of a public reply
being only private is probably affected by the sender supplying a
different reply-to address than his/her normal address.
The embarrassing situation is simply caused by people clicking Reply and
not looking what the default for the list produces. The default is
different for different lists but would seem to be unaffected by the
sender's settings. Some lists send to the sender by default when
pressing Reply (and require using Reply All and deleting the private
address), which seems illogical but is based on some stupid standard or
old habit. This illogical habit then causes the embarrassing situation
when absentmindedly clicking on Reply in other lists and forgetting that
this logically produces a public reply.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
